AI is technology, everywhere. AI, referring to Artificial Intelligence, makes mundane tasks easier and thereby helps in improving efficiency. How is it relevant to the photography workflow? This can be answered by the question — what are the mundane tasks in photo editing? Culling or Selecting through thousands of photos at times to select the best images, for starters, could be one task.

The Importance of AI in Photography Workflow

There are many photography workflows irrespective of photography genres but all of them follow the same repeated patterns in the processes of photo selection, editing, retouching and publishing. AI in photography is a friend, not a foe.

Like a friend, it can guide us in making quick decisions while culling, best suggestions while editing & finally share photos with clients in the best possible layouts & formats.
While the photography workflow still will be driven by the photographer’s way and style, AI in Photography will become the new normal to boost productivity.

Applications of AI for photography are limitless and one of them is photo culling in different genres of photography:

  • Wedding: Often more than one photographer cover a wedding. Everything is in motion, so getting everything correct is a challenge. Photographers rely on experience, practice, and shooting more than required. They don’t have the time to review the picture one-by-one and move ahead.
  • Portraits: Out of focus faces, closed eyes, a lot of duplicates are some usual photos in all type of portraiture whether they are family portraits or commercial photography.
  • Fashion: Often, fashion shoots are more automated than they appear. Models are quick to move their poses, and keep everyone on their toes. All the high-end shoots often end up with more pictures than required.

AI assistance can be a game-changer in the field of photo culling. Whether it’s about figuring out technically bad photos automatically or comparing photos based on their quality, the importance of AI can be huge in automating the photography workflows.

How FilterPixel Automates your Photography Workflow

FilterPixel is becoming a new normal for photographers. Whether there are thousands of images from a wedding or some hundreds of shots from the portrait session, whether you already have taken photo editing tips for faster photo editing workflow, there are always going to be out of focus faces, closing of eyes, extremely overexposed shots and duplicates.

  • No More Out of Focus Faces: In Lightroom (or any software), despite all the advancements, you still need to browse through the pictures one by one. Turn your photo editing workflow simpler by eliminating the need for this. Simply cull through the images, discarding the ones without the subject in focus, by one click.

No More Blinks or Closed Eyes Shot: Barring some creative photos showcasing eye make-up and grace, most of the photographers abhor the closed-eye shots. Yet, they happen. Eyes blink normally, and you can easily end up with pictures having eyes closed. Photographers do spot-check for group shots or portraits to look at the eyes and re-shoot. But they don’t have time to cull images right there.

  • No more Bad Duplicates: Shooting more is not as tedious as spending hours in figuring out which shots are best in similar images. While the word ‘best’ is subjective but a photo quality score can help in making a decision on the basis of the technical quality of the photo.

Conclusion

We have often heard the future of photography is in AI. This is only a half-truth. The other half is that AI is also the ‘present’ of photography. AI won’t take over a photographer’s or an editor’s job, but it will remove the tasks that can be handled effectively without the need for human intervention. With FilterPixel, the future of AI for photography is right here and right now.
